Acra's 21"/28" x 40" Precision (12 Speed) Gap Bed Engine Lathes are built to meet the demanding requirements of modern machine shops. The lathe's robust construction features a one-piece Meehanite casting base that has undergone vibration stress relief, ensuring maximum stability and reduced vibration during operation. The bed ways are induction hardened and precision ground, with a precision hand-scraped removable gap, providing a durable and accurate foundation for the carriage. Turcite B coating between the bed and carriage enhances smooth movement and reduces wear.
The universal gearbox allows for a wide range of inch, metric, module, and diametral pitch threads without the need for change gears, improving productivity and ease of use. The vibration-absorbent and deflection-free headstock housing contains hardened and MMG or REISHAUER ground gears, ensuring smooth and precise power transmission. The heavy-duty spindle, machined from forged alloy steel, is hardened, ground, and dynamically balanced, with a three-point support system utilizing high-grade precision machine tool taper roller and ball bearings for exceptional rigidity and accuracy.
The apron features an integrated automatic control for longitudinal and cross feeds, as well as forward and reverse feeds. RIH or LJH wheels are available upon request. The carriage and slide incorporate an anti-float design backlash eliminator fitted in the cross slide nut, a safety clutch at the feed shaft, and a one-shot lubrication system for the carriage and top slide. Dual dials supply the inch system screw, while a metric dial is available for the metric system only. Safety features include nylon safety gears in the end train and a shear pin in the leadscrew.
